Medical Expert Witness

Dr. Culbertson can serve as your Medical Expert Witness in Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery.  First, we request you send your case for a review to see if he can be of any assistance.  Dr. Culbertson has served as the Medical Expert for both the defendant and the plaintiff but, is very selective in which matters he will serve as an expert witness.  We follow the guidelines established by the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) for expert witness testimony and utilize the ASPS Expert Witness Affirmation Form (PDF).  Many appreciate Dr. Culbertson’s insight, directness and honesty utilizing and experienced unbiased approach.  As a former Disciplinary Commissioner for the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners (SCBOME) and Chairman of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) Ethics Committee he has extensive background in dealing with medical legal issues.  Dr. Culbertson has served as a consultant to several very successful legal teams, serves as a reliable expert witness and will testify if necessary on your behalf.  Our fee-schedule for the various services provided by an expert witness is available upon request.

 

Independent Medical Evaluation (IME)

We provide Independent Medical Evaluations (IME) for Workman’s Compensation, Insurance Claims and Attorney referrals. Included in our service are a review of your clients history, current physical state, need for additional medical/surgical services with a cost breakdown, possible time lost from employment and any Impairment/Disability based upon AMA Guidelines of Permanent Impairment, 5th Edition. Dr. Culbertson is an expert in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and has been providing these services for decades. We provide an honest and reliable Independent Medical Evaluations for possible scar revisions, skin conditions, hand injuries, etc. Significant hand injuries can require a Functional Capacity Evaluation of Hand Function by an Occupational Therapist which is additional service/charge. Rates are available upon request.

Credentialing/Medical Board Actions

Have you been the victim of an unfavorable action by a Hospital, Ambulatory Surgery Center or Medical Board? Are you in the process of a pending Hearing or an Appearance? Dr. Culbertson was a Disciplinary Commissioner for the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners (SCBOME) for over 10 years, is the Director of the Iris Surgery Center, an AAAASF Accredited Office Based Surgical Center and was Chairman of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) Ethics Committee. He is an expert in issues of practitioner credentialing, disruptive physician actions, ethics and Medical Board sanctions. Consider having your attorney give us a call. Peer Review

Peer Review constitutes a form of self-regulation by qualified members of a given profession. In the surgical profession it can be very important to have an individual with No Conflict of Interest (COI) & the Highest Ethical Standards to conduct this Confidential Peer Review Examination Process. Dr. Gary Culbertson has been trusted by the SCBOME to conduct Peer Review for the State of South Carolina since 1996. He also serves as a Manuscript Reviewer for the Editor of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal. Do you require a Peer Review of a Plastic Surgeon in your area by a disinterested party with a strong background/ understanding in Medical Ethics? Then, we can help.
